Savouring the mystery and magic of life

Savouring is when we relish and focus on something enjoyable or satisfying. Often through stress we fail to notice the magic and mystery of life. Indeed, another barrier to savouring the many beautiful everyday things around us is when we adapt to them. I walked Rosses Point beach today. The cool breeze fanned my face, seagulls glided above me and waves battered the sands. It”s a few months since I walked there. I stopped and stared outwards into the sea. Next stop America! I wondered about who was watching the same waters but on the other side of the Atlantic.  I sensed the mystery. I felt the magic. I don’t live in Sligo but wonder have people who do live here adapted to this beauty. Do they see it anymore? Savouring is when we bask in the glory of something right before our eyes. Savouring is commonly used in relation to foods, but positive psychology research studies reveal that there are benefits in learning to savour more than a good meal or drink. We need to work harder at learning to savour positive memories. These can cheer us up and help us feel good when we’re feeling blue. Studies show that savouring positive events is correlated with a greater sense of well being, greater happiness, and even better health.
