Counting our blessings

By having conversations about those everyday things that are easy to take for granted or miss altogether, we bring about a cascade of positive effects in our bodies

Appreciating the little things in life means focusing our attention on what is pleasurable, comforting and uplifting in our lives and away from those things that are irritating, draining, or hurtful. By having conversations about those everyday things that are easy to take for granted or miss altogether, we bring about a cascade of positive effects in our bodies.  Adopting this outlook will not prevent negative events from occurring, but it may help prevent us from over-emphasising their importance in our lives. It’s far too easy talking about negative things and discussing in detail all the things that we do not have. Psychologists are now advising clients to make lists of the things that they are blessed with in their lives. Counting our blessings has been scientifically shown to have a therapeutic effect. We should do it more and get others to do it too.
