Am I nervous?

Yesterday someone asked if I was nervous about my upcoming public shows in September.  I suppose I can only answer that if I knew what they thought I might be nervous about.  Thankfully, I never feel nervous when it comes to delivering the content. This is probably because I’ve been doing it for a long time and because I passionately believe in the material. However, I must admit there’s a slight nervousness about the significance of both events.

When I started Moodwatchers 24 years ago, the goal was to bring psychology from the clinic into the community and spread scientifically validated ideas about wellbeing to the general public. I did this for years but eventually began being asked to visit schools, companies, hospitals, universities and more. This meant I moved away from bringing psychology to people outside their workplaces – what Moodwatchers was all about at the beginning.  So I always feel a bit of pressure when people have paid an admission fee and chosen to give up a night to hear me. These shows bring me back to my roots.

As this chapter in my working life closes, I’m nervous because I’m conscious of closing a door but also excited about other things I want to do. Nervousness and excitement are first cousins of each other!

I’m thrilled that so many people have bought tickets for both shows. I often wonder who attends these things. I wonder if some of the people from the first Moodwatchers course are in the audience. Whoever does come along I am truly honoured that you have decided to. I look forward to meeting most of you in the foyer afterwards.

Click on the links bellow if you wish to be there. The Castleblayney show is on Saturday, 5th September, at 8 pm in the Iontas Theatre. The Sligo show is in the Hawk’s Well Theatre on Thursday, 10th, at 8pm. Tickets are €25 plus booking fees.

Wake Up! You’re Here! will focus on five key areas that we can work on to live healthier, happier, and more resilient lives. It was hard to narrow it down to five, and I will mix the content with some poetry, lots of humour, and stories. It’s the only way I know how to do it!!
