Whenever I look at an antique clock, I’m intrigued by its mechanism. No electricity, no batteries – just pure ingenuity, ticking away for a week at a time. In its day if you forgot to wind it, your whole household lost track of the day.
I often think about the homes these clocks lived in. They watched life stories unfold, pendulum swinging, ticking quietly for decades – outlasting the very people who relied on them. People who worried, loved, grieved, and laughed. All of them checking the time to guide their day, perhaps missing how precious every passing second really was.
I’ve always been conscious of how fast time moves, and how irreplaceable each day is. But time still rushes by despite this.
It’s hard to believe I’ve been working as a psychologist for over 20 years now. My first MOODWATCHERS course was held over six Monday nights at the Four Seasons in Monaghan. Since then, the journey has taken me to every county on the island – speaking at over 400 schools, as well as hospitals, multinationals, and state bodies. I have been honoured to speak at so many conferences at home and abroad.
As fulfilling as it’s been, I was swallowed up by organisational work and rarely had the chance to bring my mix of psychology, stories and humour to the general public. That’s what makes these upcoming public theatre shows so special – even more special because they are my finale!
