Hooray for the teachers!

It’s remarkable how quickly the academic year passes. Teachers always get grumpy in August – ‘Where did the summer go? We didn’t even have a summer this year!’ are sentences uttered from the staff rooms around the country.
Within days of their return they end up saying things like ‘It’s as if we never left at all! You really hit the road running in this job! And then the year flies by. The end of June is here already. Where did that year go?

Many teachers and special needs assistants conclude their duties to the children in their care today. As a former teacher and a psychologist who has worked so much of my life within education, I have to genuinely say that we have superb teachers. We often criticise our educational system but it’s definitely one of the best in the world. It’s not perfect. No system is.

Wishing all our teachers a summer that goes by very slowly and lots of relaxation and revitalisation!
